Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also a seasoned public speech writer. She created Feminist Frequency the site that features videos and comments on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit website which explores representations of women in popular stories of culture. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her main focus. But, she also highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet as well as other communities which have been left out. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a well-known public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a university student she became interested in the issues surrounding gender and rights for women from a young age. An ambitious woman who wanted to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games was targeted in an online campaign. But the harassment did not discourage her. The experience only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her in recognition of her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She is also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organization that explores pop culture gender representations.
